Customer Reviews about Oconee Urology

I was referred to Oconee Urology because of a constant high PSA level. I contacted their office and made a appointment. A few days later I was contacted by their office and they advised they had to change the appointment. After rescheduling I received another request , again a few days later and again I was rescheduled. During my first appointment most questions were asked by the nurse and when the doctor entered he asked a couple of questions mainly pertaining to my prescription history. He never conducted an exam. He advised that because of my PSA being 8.8 that a biopsy should be conducted. This would be my second. I cannot remember or find the name of the doctor but he seemed maybe to be Philipino. Upon leaving they requested payment but I had to advise her that when they called me back the second time to reschedule I would not be able to pay that day but could the next. She said she would make a note. After finishing the appointment she advised me to call back the next day and make a payment over the phone. I attempted the next day but had to leave a message with billing. After a few attempts I never received a call back. After the biopsy was completed he advised me that it will take 5-7 days before he would get the results and that he does not give information over the phone and I would have to make an appointment to get the lab results. While driving home I was wondering if the results came back as a fast growing cancer he would violate his policy and call me quickly. The appointment was made for three weeks later. A few days prior to my appointment I began wondering if I would have to pay for the information. Upon arriving and after checking in I was advised that I would have to pay a $35 co-pay. I advised the lady on the computer that I felt I shouldn't have to pay for an appointment he scheduled and he could actually have given over the phone. The lady behind the computer told me it wasn't their policy but that Humanna mandated the payment. I said okay and excused myself to the parking area to contact Humanna to verify this mandate. I was advised that it was not true but advised that maybe I could ask them to bill me which would give me time to check with Humanna later. As I approached the desk the lady advised me that not only would I have to make the $35 payment but that I had failed to pay for two prior appointments. I then advised her I tried but no body would call me back. I asked her that if didn't pay could I still see the doctor and she shook her head no. I advised I would pay the $35 but asked her to bill me for the other and that's when another lady felt obligated to advise her that because it was over 30 days they couldn't bill me. I then thanked her very much for that information and she walked away with a smug look on her face seemingly proud of her ability to use her minimum amount of authority to stick it to me for my emotionally candid request to justify why I had to drive 30 miles, burn gasoline, use my time and then pay $35 to see if I had cancer or not.. I believe that maybe, just maybe, Insurance Companies are being billed for non-nonsensical appointments. This may seem petty to some but I have protected the citizens of this great nation as a soldier in the Untied States Army and the citizens of SC as a Deputy Sheriff for almost 30 years and $35 dollars can go along way for someone who lives paycheck to paycheck. I will not return to Oconee Urology for any further medical treatment for two reasons, they did not tell the truth to me and they made me pay to find out whether or not I had cancer.
